Our Technology – Built for Reliability & Performance

Our current model, Electra100, is a fourth generation system designed to robotically put down detail pavement markings.

Ford F-550

Our robotic painting system is built on the proven Ford F550 commercial truck platform, providing the durability, reliability, and serviceability required in fleet maintenance programs. The F550 offers a stable and dependable foundation for the robotic arm and the painting system components. Its heavy-duty chassis supports the integrated robotics, paint systems, and support equipment while maintaining the maneuverability needed for detail painting. Because the platform is familiar to fleet mechanics and operators, maintenance and service are straightforward, minimizing downtime and simplifying long-term ownership.

Yaskawa Robot

The most unique feature of the system is a Yaskawa industrial robotic arm.  The robot easily paints across an entire lane.  Its extended reach allows the system to paint a wide variety of roadway symbols and markings while reducing the need for vehicle repositioning. Battle-tested in automotive assembly lines, the robot delivers the precision, repeatability, and reliability expected from one of the world’s leading robotic manufacturers. Operators can quickly learn to paint with the robot using the computer touchscreen.  The software is designed to make layout and painting simple for the operator.  In fact, new painters can paint like a professional with only a few days of training. Most importantly, the robot removes road workers from physically demanding activities like unloading/reloading equipment and burning thermoplastic into the pavement.  Instead, the operator remains safely inside the truck cab during layout and painting a transverse symbol.  In addition to painting, the robot can set out safety cones.

Graco Airless Compressor and Tips

The RoadPrintz system is equipped with Graco painting equipment which is known throughout the pavement marking industry for dependable performance and high-quality spray application. The Graco system provides clean paint edges, consistent coverage, and efficient material transfer for both waterborne and solvent-based paints. The familiar Graco equipment simplifies painter training and equipment maintenance. The system’s spray configuration produces professional detail roadway markings with minimal adjustment or operator intervention.

Retroreflective Bead Tank

The integrated retroreflective bead tank allows the RoadPrintz system to apply glass beads immediately after paint application, enhancing nighttime visibility and helping roadway markings meet DOT retroreflectivity standards. The bead delivery system is designed for reliable and consistent application while operating in conjunction with the robotic painting process. Operators can easily monitor and control bead application using the computer touchscreen.

Paint Supply Capacity

The RoadPrintz system holds up to five 5-gallon paint buckets.  The robot is able to switch between two paint sources.

Water Tank

An onboard water tank supports ad hoc flushing and routine maintenance operations. Reliable flushing and cleaning capability contribute to long-term equipment durability and help ensure dependable robotic operation from one project to the next. Combined with the Reverse-A-Clean automated tip flipper, clogs can be easily cleared to maintain a consistent spray quality throughout the work day.

Industrial Computer with Touchscreen

The RoadPrintz system is operated through an industrial-grade computer with an intuitive touchscreen interface designed specifically for detail roadway marking. The user-friendly system makes layout, painting and area monitoring easy for the operator.  Responding to its feel as a video game, operators learn the system quickly and operate with confidence after 2 days or less of training. The rugged industrial computer is engineered to withstand the temperatures and vibration of a vehicle in the summer heat.
